Frequently Asked Questions
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the science, art and philosophy of locating and
correcting subluxation through gentle, specific adjustments thus
allowing the body to function at its optimal level.
What is Subluxation?
Subluxation is the misalignment of one or more vertebra of the spinal
column, which causes interference of nerve functions and transmission of
mental impulses resulting in lessening of the body's innate ability to
heal itself and function at its optimum potential. A subluxation is the
perfect example of how structure affects function.
What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
Adjustments are used by Chiropractors to reposition the bones that are
out of proper alignment, or subluxated. There are various techniques of
adjusting the vertebrae. Depending on the patient’s age, and condition,
any of these techniques may be used.
A gentle, specific "thrust" delivered by hand or instrument. The purpose
of the adjustment is to correct your spinal subluxation(s) thus removing
the nerve interference in your body.
How do you get a Subluxation?
There are three basic causes of vertebral subluxation. Physical stresses
on the spine and nervous system may include slips and falls, motor
accidents, repetitive motion, and improper sleeping. Chemical stress
includes smoking, alcohol abuse, not drinking enough water, improper
diet, or the overuse of drugs or medications. Finally, emotional stress
is a major cause of subluxation due to its effect on the hormonal and
muscular systems of the body. Regardless of the cause, these
subluxations need to be detected and removed.
Do children need Chiropractic Care?
If the birthing process itself isn't traumatic enough for the spine, the
first few tries at walking surely is! Did you know that some deliveries
are so traumatic that the child actually fractures their collar bone
during the birthing process?
As our children grow and become active in sports such as gymnastics,
soccer, football, or tennis, or when they begin to play musical
instruments, their growing spines are subjected to tremendous amounts of
stress.
Proper spinal alignment is so important, especially when we grow. Many
adult problems can be traced back to a childhood fall, injury, or
commonly poor posture from carrying backpacks or spending endless hours
playing video games or computer games. It is very important at this
developmental stage of their lives for you to seriously consider regular
chiropractic care for your child.
Chiropractic will help keep your precious child's little spine in line.
Why should I care about my posture?
Your posture is an outward representation of how your spine is built.
Research into what makes a body healthy has demonstrated without a doubt
that normal posture is essential for your body to function optimally.
The majority of the afflictions which plague people is abnormal posture.
By making certain your posture is as good as possible, you ultimately
enable your body to be as healthy as possible, and even avoid many if
not all of the problems associated with an aging spine.
Why do some people go to chiropractors over and
over again? -I've heard that once you go, you have to go forever?
Ultimately, your health is your own business. Many people in the last
10-15 years have discovered that ultimately, your health is your
responsibility, and no one else's. Therefore, by learning the
fundamental truth that "structure determines function" they desire to
have their structure as normal and healthy as possible. Once your
posture is corrected, you may require occasional check ups to insure you
remain aligned normally.
Once corrected, many patients continue supporting their health with
periodic adjustments. This choice is due to understanding the
relationship between structure, function and optimal health.
